Regional Qualifier for the National Championships

After a gap of almost 3 years due to COVID-19, it was lovely to welcome back riders to a live competition again and our Regional Qualifier for the National Championships at Hartpury duly took place at Omagh RDA Centre on Tuesday 19th April. Inevitably, it was a much smaller competition than usual with a total of 14 Riders taking part, the majority being from Omagh with one from Longstone and one from Newtownards.

The weather was kind to us in that the rain held off until the Countryside Challenge in the outdoor arena was finished and the dressage classes were held indoors so were unaffected. Inevitably, everyone was a bit rusty but the success of the riders made all the effort worthwhile and it was lovely to see the smiles on their faces at the prize giving. 3 Riders achieved qualifying scores in their Countryside Challenge Classes and 9 Riders achieved qualifying scores in their dressage classes with Naomi Elkin (Senior) and Leah McBride (Junior) qualifying in both their classes. The standard in dressage looked particularly high to me and I am sure, they will all do us proud if they decide to enter the Championships.

As always ,we are so grateful to our Judges, Ivor Harper and his scribe, Patricia McLean, Sara McCorkell, Christine Hankin, Caroline Twemlow and Felicity Jury (Arts and Crafts ). A huge thank you too to Gwen Garrett and her team of trusty Omagh Volunteers who did a brilliant job of organising the day and keeping everyone safe.
